Projects - Clonmore Road Bridge (Joe Dolan Memorial Bridge)

Clonmore Road Bridge (Joe Dolan Memorial Bridge)

Project Description

This new Clonmore Bridge formed the final link necessary to complete the Mullingar Orbital Road (C-Link).

The works comprised of 540m of reinforced concrete bridge, carrying a two-lane road carriageway with footpaths and cycle-paths along each side. The new bridge has 20 spans; each span contains nine pre-cast reinforced concrete beams, totalling 180 beams which were all pre-cast on site.

The new bridge crosses over the flood plain of the River Brosna and Lacy’s Canal which has soft ground conditions (up to 25m of peat overlying more than 20m of very soft silt).

Works also included approach embankments with tie-ins to existing Lynn Roundabout on the old N52 at the southern end and linking Clonmore Business Park at the northern end. The installation of watermain, combined drainage kerb over the bridge and carrier drains at both abutments and embankments which transferred the surface water to the wetlands drainage system. We also installed new Public Lighting & Utilities for the length of the contract.
