Athlone UBG104A

Project Description

To facilitate the new Galway to Dublin Greenway Cycleway, Jons Civil Engineering Company Ltd. constructed a new underbridge below the Dublin to Galway railway line over the Easter Bank Holiday 2019.

The structure is located at approximately 77 miles 1370 yards milepost along the Dublin to Galway/Westport railway line. Over a 72hr TIII Possession, the existing railway embankment was excavated and the new underbridge and wingwalls were installed below the railway. Significant temporary works were implemented as part of the works such as a piled concrete pad to support the large crawler crane used to lift in the PC Units, elevated steel trough to house the track services and a ground water pumping system including silt control. We completed the backfilling and ballast installation ahead of schedule ensuring the track was reopened comfortably at the end of the possession.

As part of the main works contiguous bored piled wall was installed to adjoin with the new underbridge wingwall units to the north of the site. We worked collaborative with both Irish Rail and Westmeath Co. Council on this contract to open the new track within the agreed time frame.
