The project entailed the construction of a 104m steel bridge over the River Shannon through Athlone Town Centre, associated ramps and boardwalks, as well as removal and reinstatement of marina berths. It consisted of the construction of approach structures on either river bank with cantilever boardwalks and steel ramps and reinforced concrete retaining structures. The works entailed significant interface with the Radisson Hotel, Luan Gallery and many environmental bodies.
The main works consisted of the following elements:
- Earthworks and Paving works for the ramps along the side of and up to the patio of the Radisson Hotel and existing walkway at the LUAN Gallery side
- Bridge works and associated cofferdams, temporary works and piling in and adjacent to the River Shannon
- Landscaping works throughout
- Services, diversions and installation of public lighting and electrical works
- Traffic signalling works
- Alteration works to the Marina
