The overall project was carried out in an urban environment and had to be constructed with phased possessions involving live traffic, live railway and live canal contiguous with Maynooth University access. The contract involved the widening and realignment of the road, the replacement of the railway overbridge and canal bridge at Bond Road, Maynooth including associated roadworks, drainage and accommodation works.
We also provided pedestrian access for the students of Maynooth University through the job during construction. There were two no principle structures including:-
- New insitu concrete railway bridge incorporating pre cast beams and parapet
- New insitu arched canal bridge with extensive masonry stone cladding which necessitated damming and over pumping of the canal.
The contract included a 5 day possession of the rail line to demolish the existing bridge and install new culvert and foundations for the new rail bridge. The contract also involved the relining of a section of the canal with membrane and puddle clay.
