M50 Upgrade Scheme – N3 to N4

Project Description

Jons undertook the the design and upgrade of a 1.9km section of the M50 between the N3 Off and On ramps and the Northern end of the Westlink Toll Plaza. The M50 Upgrade Scheme  represented a major enhancement to Dublin’s orbital motorway.

The Project comprised of widening works included the provision of three 3.5 metres wide running lanes in each direction, and a 3.5 metres wide auxiliary lane in each direction, widening of two existing underbridges (carrying the M50 Motorway over the side roads) and various signing and lighting works. We installed gantry structures for the provision of Advanced Direction Signage (ADS) and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) equipment and demolished the old M50 Toll booths to facilitate the new barrier free toll system.

We carried out all the Traffic Management in house and maintained two lanes in each direction at all times during construction except overnight where one lane in each direction was permitted. We also placed noise reducing pavement overlays on the existing mainline.
