This contract involves the routine maintenance of 694 bridges over a 4-year period, with each bridge to be visited at least once each year. The North West region covers counties Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Mayo, Galway, Monaghan, Cavan and Roscommon. It also includes an element of reactive maintenance over the full performance period to address bridge strikes and other non-planned maintenance works.
Works include unblocking drainage, removal of vegetation, repairing potholes and sealing pavement cracks, parapet repairs, patch painting of steelwork, concrete repairs, unblocking drainage, replacing guardrails/safety barriers, scour repairs to river bridges, road sweeping and cleaning and graffiti removal.
Collaboration was key on this project particularly with Inland Fisheries Ireland as many of the bridges were protected/designated as SAC’s or pNHA’s with a number having Fresh Water Pearl Mussel/Salmon/Crayfish.
