Following the catastrophic failure of one of its support piers in 2009 JCEL were called by Iarnrod Eireann to undertake the emergency reconstruction and repair of the bridge, which was re-opened to all traffic in just 12 weeks.
The main elements of work comprised of the clearance and removal of the collapsed portions of the Broadmeadow Viaduct, reinstatement of the weir, piling for and installation of pier reinforcing and underpin piling of the remaining 11 piers and replacing two deck spans with new precast beams and insitu concrete deck which was waterproofed. Replacing of ballast on the track of the repaired bridge and the installation of a new insitu parapet and railings.
